First Step Training have launched a brand new Cycle Instructor Apprenticeship scheme, offering a unique vocational pathway for aspiring cycle instructors. Having the endorsement of the The Bikeability Trust, we have created a comprehensive programme of training to develop all the skill, knowledge and behaviours required to be a successful cycle instructor.
Supported by 1st4sport, participants will complete a Level 2 Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship Standard, a Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training, and additional Cycle Instructor-specific safety training including:
- H&S Training
- Equality Training
- Safeguarding Training
This apprenticeship pathway is designed to teach the communication, leadership, and practical skills, that give them the ability to plan and deliver practical cycling programmes. The programme is ideal for a cycle instructing Training Provider who’s services include:
- Bikeability Levels L1, L2 & L3
- Learn to Ride and Balance
- Bikeability Adult & Family (or other similar projects)
- Cycle Clubs etc.
The course requires the apprentice to have at least 20% of their time spent learning off the job, so apprentices can be committed to learning the unique qualities of your business, whilst building their knowledge in areas such as cycling balance, signalling and road safety.
The new programme supports organisations to employ new instructors, with the overall target of achieving the vision of The Trust, that EVERY child has access to cycling as a life skill by 2025. With the financial incentives for hiring new apprentices having been extended, there is £3000 on offer for each new apprentice hired, and an additional £1000 for anyone hired aged between 16 and 18.
As a registered apprenticeship provider, we provide all the training and assessments necessary. We also track an apprentice’s progress throughout their time with us for quality assurance purposes. We can offer this service free of charge to your business as it is fully funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (EFSA). You’ll need to register with the Apprenticeship service and attend an employer induction with First Step Training before starting the training.
To register your interest please contact First Step Training. There has never been a better time to train an apprentice.
