First Step Training have partnered with the Bikeability Trust, Department for Transport and Cycle Training Providers to introduce a new Cycle Instructor Apprenticeship Pathway.
Our aim was to design a tailor-made apprenticeship pathway suited perfectly to the Cycle Instructor job role, with the goal of creating a well-rounded and diverse cycle instructor workforce.
The Trust and DFT have an ambitious target of ensuring all children across England have access to free ‘safer cycling’ provision by 2025, meaning cycle training providers across the country are investing in their workforce. That’s where YOU come in!
who's it for?
The Cycle Instructor Apprenticeship Pathway the ideal if you have a passion for cycling and have aspirations of working with children to provide valuable ‘safer cycling’ sessions. This pathway will be perfect for you if you:

course content
The Cycle Instructor Apprenticeship is designed to provide you with all the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to become a successful cycle instructor.
You will complete:
- Level 2 Community Activator Apprenticeship Standard
- 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training
You will also gain ‘added value’ training, with cycle instructor specific:
- Safeguarding Workshop
- Equality & Diversity Workshop
- H&S Workshop
- British Values Training
