Bespoke Multi-Skills Training and a 100% Pass Rate for School Coaching Team

“We’re delighted with the training. Finding a course to fit around our busy schedule was essential, and First Step Training really delivered. The feedback from the coaches was excellent – they enjoyed the training, and gained some valuable skills that they are already putting to good use. We’d definitely recommend them.”

The Client

Life Leisure is Stockport’s number one leisure and fitness providers, operating an extensive mix of sports and leisure facilities across the region. A not for profit social enterprise and registered charity, Life Leisure works to improve fitness, health and wellbeing across the community.

As part of this work, Life Leisure delivers sporting activities and health programmes across the community – including delivering sports for primary schools.

The Challenge

In 2019, Life Leisure was looking to invest in its School Coaching Team – to help improve the delivery of school sports and PE, in primary schools in and around Stockport.

With a large team of coaches working in a number of different schools, they needed the training to be flexible, and delivered around the team’s busy schedule.

This wasn’t a box-ticking exercise – the idea was for the coaches to work towards a relevant, recognised industry qualification. Life Leisure wanted training that was really valuable, providing useful, practical ideas that coaches would engage with, and that they would utilise in the schools.

The Results

Life Leisure got in touch with First Step to deliver a bespoke Level 2 in Coaching Multi-Skills Development in Sport course. After working with Life Leisure to find dates to suit the entire coaching team, we delivered the course over four days at the company headquarters.

The programme combined the latest theory with practical tasks throughout the day – with coaches given the chance to apply the learning in the session. After the training, participants were also given online support to complete the course, before the practical assessment day.

All the learners passed the course, and were fully certified within 12 weeks of the start date. The development team and the coaches were delighted with the training, and are already applying the new skills at primary schools across the North West.
